If something doesn’t feel right, you can tell us.

Abuse can happen in different ways. Tap or hover to learn more.

Physical Harm

Someone hurts your body.

They may hit, kick, push, burn or hurt you in another way.

What you can do

Move somewhere safer if you can and tell an adult you trust. You can also call 116 and talk to us.

Sexual Abuse

Someone involves you in something sexual that makes you uncomfortable.

This can include touching, showing you sexual things, asking for pictures or making you do something you do not want to do.

What you can do

You can tell us what happened. You do not need to have the right words. Call 116.

Emotional Abuse

Someone repeatedly makes you feel scared, worthless or unwanted.

This can include threats, insults, humiliation, shouting or controlling you.

What you can do

How someone treats you matters. Talk to someone you trust or speak to a Childline counsellor on 116.

Neglect

You are not getting the care or protection you need.

This could mean not having enough food, medical care, supervision, safety or somewhere suitable to live.

What you can do

Tell us what is happening. We can listen and help you understand what support may be available.

Bullying

Someone keeps hurting, threatening or humiliating you.

It can happen at school, at home, in your community or online.

What you can do

You do not have to handle it alone. Tell a trusted adult or call 116.

Online - Abuse

Someone is making you feel unsafe online.

They may threaten you, ask for private pictures, send sexual messages, bully you or pressure you to keep secrets.

What you can do

Stop replying if you feel unsafe. If it is safe to do so, keep the messages. Then speak to someone you trust or call 116.

I'm not sure what is happening...

Something feels wrong, but you don’t know what to call it. That is okay. You do not need to decide whether something is “abuse” before asking for help.
